A New Sauna Trend: Wild Saunas in Britain Are Becoming More and More Popular
Who can resist a traditional wooden sauna located on a secluded Scottish beach and cooling off in the cold sea? Read about the new concept.
Visitors to beaches in Scotland and the UK in general have been enjoying wild saunas for several years, which offers them a unique concept of “wild saunas.”
Saunas in the wilderness, which are nicknamed “wild saunas” in the UK, are usually very simple and are often converted mobile boxes for horses. The intention of the founders of wild saunas – local entrepreneurs, volunteers, sauna associations or communities – is to provide people with spaces to meet and strengthen both physical and mental health.
Saunas are available to people free of charge and the bonus is often great views and the opportunity to warm up in the wilderness. Mika Meskanen, founder of the British Sauna Society, says at least 50 saunas have been added across the UK in the last two years, with many more in various stages of planning. Reportedly, you won’t find a beach in Britain that isn’t in some phase of implementing a wild sauna.
It is a massive movement that not only brings local people together and entertains them. Many communities also host summer sauna festivals. Read more about wild saunas. And if you are interested in this type of sauna, do not hesitate to try it on your next visit to the UK.
